Age 90 of Ohio Township passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Monday November 25, 2013. He was the beloved husband for 70 years of Dorothy (Bukovan) Madara. Loving father of Phyllis (Robert) McCaffrey, Karen (the late Ronald) Kratsas, and Janet (Thomas) Ludwig. Devoted grandfather of Natalie, Timothy, Nathan, Shannon, Kristina, Stephen, and Kara. Beloved great grandpa of Shaelyn, Colin, Brendan, and Declan. As a young man Roy was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He proudly served in the Marine first division in the Pacific Theater, on Okinawa, during WWII. He was a photographer/photoengraver at the Pittsburgh Press and Post for 40 years. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church, where he served as and usher and Eucharistic minister. Roy was an avid golfer. Family will receive friends Sunday 7-9 PM and Monday 2-4, 7-9 PM at the T. B. Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy. North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa of Avila Church Tuesday at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mr. Madara’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army, without whom he often said, “I would not have had a Christmas when I was a little boy.”
