March 03, 1930 - June 22, 2023

Service: Sunday, July 30, 2023, 2:00 pm; Jeannette American Legion

Paul Guy Caswell, 93, of Forest Hills, passed away on June 22, 2023 surrounded by family.
Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Botti) Caswell for 63 years, cherished father of Laurie Caswell
Rosenberg (Lou), Lisa Caswell Johnson (Joe), and Paul Lewis Caswell (Beth). Adored Pap to
Courtland and Kendall Johnson, Danny and Ben Rosenberg, and Robyn, Marissa, and Nicklas
Caswell. Never has a grandfather been more interested and involved in, and so proud of, his
grandchildren’s lives and accomplishments. Preceded in death by his parents Martha (Schmitt)
Caswell and Paul Elbridge Caswell, sister Alyce McQuiston, and brother Teddy.
Paul was born in Sharpsville, PA on March 3, 1930. Following high school, he served in the US
Navy from 1948-1952 as a Cryptologic Technical Seaman. This experience resulted in a lifelong
hobby as an amateur radio operator. Upon completion of his military service, Paul earned a BA
in Psychology from Youngstown University, and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
Paul was employed briefly by the American Red Cross before joining Westinghouse in Human
Resources where he spent the next 38 years, and where he met Liz. Early in his career he
worked at Waltz Mill in labor relations. He was integral in the corporation’s foray into diversity,
equity, and inclusion. The majority of Paul’s time at Westinghouse was in the international
group at headquarters, and he traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Paul
retired in 1994.
Always an athlete, Paul ran dozens of Great Races and a couple of half-marathons, and rode
century bike rides, staying physically active until the very end. In retirement, Paul became a
charter member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institution at CMU, participating as both a
student and an occasional instructor. His greatest joy was playing clarinet with the Jeannette
Community Band for the last 10 years.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Sunday, July 30 at 2:00 pm, at the Jeannette
American Legion. Please bring your stories and memories of Paul to share. Private burial, with
military honors, will be held the previous day at Homewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s honor and memory may be made to the following
organizations:
 Jeannette Community Band, P.O. Box 597, Jeannette PA, 15644
 Osher Lifelong Learning Institution at CMU, 5000 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Gary & I were so happy to visit with Paul several times when he visited Laurie & Lou in Rockville, Md. We shared wonderful conversations with him, and saw what a ‘Renaissance man’ he was. He will surely be missed by all who knew him….. Love to the family.
