LaVerne Miller, 89, of West View died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Daughter to the late Anna H. and John W. Marshall; beloved wife of 57 years to the late Harry E. Miller (U.S. Navy WWII and Korean War); loving mother to John W. Miller and Eileen, Harry E. Miller, Jr., Lori A. Miller, and Lynn A. Phillips and her husband Bruce; grandmother to Brandon L. Miller, and sister to the late Marian (Carl) Romano, the late John (Betty) Marshall and the late Evelyn “Babe” Rapolti; also survived by nieces and nephews.

LaVerne was raised in Verner, a small factory community that was below the McKees Rocks Bridge where the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority now stands. LaVerne graduated from Oliver High School in 1952 and later married Harry on June 11, 1955, whom she met while playing Duckpin Bowling at the North Side YMCA. Harry and LaVerne eventually moved to West View, directly across from West View Park, where they raised their four children and three dogs Sniffy, Tiger, (their German Shepherd of 13 years that everyone in the neighborhood knew), and Muffy.

After her children had grown, LaVerne became a florist and later a salesclerk at Martin’s Jewelers. LaVerne loved to make flower arrangements and would work with her sister at Flowers by Marian during the holidays. She also enjoyed sewing, traveling, reading novels and chatting on the front porch with her friends, Georgia and Donna. But, most of all, she loved spending time with her family. After a long and fulfilling life, LaVerne spent her final days content and at peace at Holy Family Manor. With her witty sense of humor, she could make anyone smile. She was loved and cared for by the very best. She will be sorely missed by all.

Extremely likable, I personally knew her, her husband Harry, and all of their children. I lived a few doors from them for many years, and they were the best neighbors around. She will be dearly missed by all the people that knew her. Rest in peace LaVerne.
