Thomas Lincoln Walworth, 86 of North Hills died April 8, 2010. Born on November 5,1923 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Stanley Lincoln and Norene Keyes Walworth, the family moved to Pittsburgh in 1926, settling in Ben Avon. Tom graduated from Avonworth High School in 1941 and he followed in his father’s footsteps attending Union College in Schenectady, NY. After serving in the Navy in World War II as a flight navigator, he returned to Union College and received his BS in 1948.
In 1949, Tom met Jane Moore on a blind date and they married in 1951. Their marriage lasted for over 58 years until Jane’s death in January 2010.
In 1961, Tom acquired the JR Fuller Company. He renamed the company Material Handling Specialties, expanded the business and in 1969 moved to their current location on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh. Retiring in 1988, he sold the business to his employees who run it successfully today.
Along with his wife Jane, Tom was active in local community and numerous charitable organizations such as Meals on Wheels for which they delivered for many years. Tom is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Keyes and Christy Walworth of Alexandria, Virginia, sister-in-law Mary Moore of Oakmont, PA, daughters, Laura (Dan Hill) Walworth of Brooklyn NY, and Norene (Rob Capaldi) Walworth of Ross Twp, sons, Dan (Hilary Kliros) Walworth of Brooklyn, NY and Jack (Dorothy Low) Walworth of Glendale, CA, and grandchildren, Leigh Hill, Felix Walworth, Lotte Walworth, Emily Walworth, Elena and Peter Capaldi. His sister Joanne Turpin preceded him in death. There is no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Devlin Funeral Home.
