Thomas Flaherty Jr., 81, of Ross Township, passed away peacefully Friday, May 15, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a brave battle with leukemia. Tom was the beloved husband of Trudy for 59 years and loving father of his children, Kathy (Mickey) McKenna, Thomas III (Kathy Jean), Kevin, Teresa (Gary) Heusey and Michael (Charlene); also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson; brother of the late William Flaherty. Tom was a World War II Navy veteran, a 1951 graduate of Duquesne University and had a long successful career in advertising. He and his wife, Trudy, were active North Hills realtors. Tom was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Church. He was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in the Pittsburgh diocese. He enjoyed teaching high school CCD and was also active as a promoter of St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, serving as president of the retreat league board of directors. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Teresa of Avila Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Society.
