Sr. M. Immaculata Pavlik

June 30, 2016

Sister M. Immaculata Pavlik, a Sister of Charity of Nazareth, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at the age of 84 and in the 65th year of her religious life. Sister entered the congregation of the Vincentian Sisters of Charity from St. Mathias Church in Youngstown, Ohio in 1951.

She received her B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from Duquesne University and a B.A. degree from the University of Ottawa. Sister used these degrees to serve the Church as an elementary teacher and principal in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg, PA, Mobile, AL, and Scarborough, Ontario. After 29 years of service to the people of the Province of Ontario, Canada, Sister Immaculata returned to the United States where she became a Director of Religious Education and Pastoral Minister in the Diocese of Youngtown, Ohio for 7 years. She then returned to the Motherhouse in Pittsburgh and served in the Business Office.

When illness forced her into retirement, Sister spent a brief time at the Vincentian Home where she passed away peacefully.
Sister was fondly addressed as “”Mac”” by her sister friends. She valued education and felt that one needed to pursue ongoing education to keep well informed and broaden one’s perspective. Her indomitable spirit and embrace of life echoes Frank Sinatra’s song “”I Did It My Way””.

Sister Immaculata was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna Kral Pavlik and brothers, Edward and Joseph. She is survived by her brother, Frank and sisters, Pauline, Mary and Jenny, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her Sisters in Community.

Friends will be received at St. Louise Convent, 8200 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, July 5 from 2 – 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in the convent chapel on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 a.m., followed by internment in the Sisters’ cemetery on the convent grounds. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Office of the Congregational Advancement, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048-0009.
