Sister Mary Jean Kubilus, SCN

March 25, 1928 - March 22, 2016

A Sister of Charity of Nazareth, was called to her heavenly home on March 22, 2016, at the age of 87 and in the 66th year of her religious life. Sister entered the Congregation of the Vincentian Sisters of Charity from St. Michael Parish in Jessup, PA in 1949. She received her B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees with Permanent Certification in Elementary Administration from Duquesne University and served the Church as an Elementary teacher and principal in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg, PA and Youngstown, OH for 48 years. Her career in education was followed by ten years of service at the Vincentian Childcare Center in Pittsburgh, PA. When illness forced her into retirement she served the people of God through her prayer ministry. Sr. Mary Jean had a deep love and respect for her family and community and credited her religious vocation to the deep faith and sacrifice of her mother and brother. She valued education and delighted in the fact that her different ministry positions enabled her to reach and touch the lives of so many people. Sister loved her family and treasured the times she could vacation with them and her friends. She also had a great love for animals, especially her cat, Cali. Sister Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Kubilus; and her brothers, Joseph, Walter and Edward. She is survived by her sister, Dolores (Frank) Dubas; nieces and nephews; and her Sisters in Community. Friends will be received at St. Louise Convent, 8200 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Louise Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sisters’ cemetery on the convent grounds. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Office of Congregational Advancement, P.O.
