Scott Desmond
November 16, 1958 - February 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of beautiful memories that we announce the passing of Scott Desmond, a man whose effervescent personality and boundless kindness made the world a brighter place for everyone he met. To his wife, Marianne, he was everything: her best friend, her lover, and the absolute center of her world. Married on June 27, 1981, the pair shared nearly 45 years of a deep, enduring partnership built on love and a filled with laughter.
Scott was known for a sense of humor and an outlook on life that truly set him apart. He possessed the rare gift of being able to turn an ordinary moment into a joyful one. Whether it was a quick-witted remark or his signature habit of bursting into a specific tune the moment a “trigger word” was spoken, he kept those around him smiling. As many have noted, a chance encounter with Scott was a guaranteed way to make any day brighter.
He was a man who embraced life’s simple pleasures and the community around him. He loved his time on the court playing pickleball and cherished his rides with the retiree cycling group—though he might have admitted he enjoyed the social gatherings and going out to eat afterwards just as much as the ride itself. His generous spirit was further evidenced by his time spent volunteering at Sherwood Oaks, where he found great joy in assisting residents with their phone and computer issues.
A “special friend” for many, he was as generous with his time as he was with his heart. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne; his sister-in-law Diana Bell (Greg); his sister Cheryl Lynn “Sherry” Hagen (Ed); his brothers Sam “Skip”Desmond and Todd Desmond (Maria); and his nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share stories of a life well-lived on Thursday, March 5, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Scott’s honor to Pennies from Heaven, an organization reflecting his lifelong spirit of giving.

Gone, not forgotten. Growing up in the same neighborhood during the 60s was memorable. Lucky to have known you Scotty. Respectful wishes of condolence to your family.
Marianne, my deepest sympathies to you . I was saddened to hear of Scott’s sudden passing. Scott was truly a special man and I will fondly remember our times volunteering for Pennies from Heaven at Treesdale for the Apple Open. Condolences to you and your families
I worked with “scotty D” for 7 years or so at Mellon capital. He was always helpful and was a pleasure to work with. The world lost truly genuine person.
As cousins, and 33 strong, we were like roots of an oak tree. Its been a minute since I have seen many of those roots, but I know they are always there. Scotts root in our family was one of kindness and good cheer. He was just… easy to love. Easy to be around. He had a warmth about him that made things lighter, better.
We’re all going to miss him. And like roots under a strong oak, that connection doesn’t just disappear. It stays with us.
Godspeed.
Very surprised and sadden by Scott’s passing. Way to early for a great man.
Prayers for the family members and especialli my best friend Sam.
God bless in your hours of sorrow.
Scott was a mentor and a great friend. I owe a lot of joy and success to having Scott and Marianne in my life. We were all lucky for any time spent with this inspiring family.
Mayte and I have been saddened deeply by Scott’s passing away. We always appreciated his cheerful personality and special wit . I myself will still be listening for his trademark call – “I’m here!” – at turns during bike rides.
Marianne
So sorry. Scott will be missed. Always a smile and a happy greeting. Easy to deal with as a customer and great to see as a friend for years after.
