Age 80 of the Town of McCandless, at his home surrounded by his loving family, on Friday September 11, 2015. Beloved husband of Joan (Coco) Powers for 57 years. Loving father of Robert M. Powers, Kelly Ann Powers, and Timothy P. Powers. Dear grandfather of Holly Persic (Chris), Adam, Joseph, Britney, Emily and John Frates, Ashley (Phillip), Margaret and Matthew. Brother of James Powers and the late Mary Schmiedl. Bob has served on the Town of McCandless Council since 1973 and during that time has been President of Council since 1982. A Korean War Veteran serving in the US Marines in active duty from 1953-1956. Retired in 1994 from Quaker Valley School District after 34 years as a teacher and Assistant Principal. He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pa. with a Masters Degree from Westminster and Duquesne. His other government accomplishments include Chairman of the Municipal Risk Management Workers Compensation Pooled Trust. Past President of Pennsylvania State Council of Governments Association. Past President Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners. Former Chairman Executive Board of the North Hills Council of Governments. His awards include, “Good Government Award”, Pennsylvania State Senate,” Good Government”, North Hills Jaycees, State House of Representatives Citation for Public Service and Good Government, Recipient of Superintendent’s Academic Excellence Award, Quaker Valley School District. Bob was a founding member of St. John Neumann Parish where he served as a Lay Minister of the Eucharist. Bob was an avid Sportsman, who enjoyed his many hunting and fishing trips and especially the time he spent at his family lodge in Phillipsburg. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Herder Spring Hunting Lodge. Family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday 2-4, 6-8 PM at the Devlin Funeral Home, Inc., 806 Perry Hwy. North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Neumann Church Wednesday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John Neumann Parish, 2230 Rochester Rd. Pgh, Pa. 15237 or the New McCandless Museum, to purchase “Stepping Stones” in his honor, 9955 Grubbs Rd. Wexford, Pa. 15090.
