Robert George Trautmann, 86, of Ross Township passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026 in the wonderful care of Family Hospice in Lawrenceville. Bob was a beloved father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by his family and all of his friends at The Haven at North Hills.
Bob was born on August 7, 1939 to Harry and Elizabeth Traumann in the Arlington neighborhood of Pittsburgh. He was youngest brother to Harry, Lil and Dolores and enjoyed spoiling his nieces and nephews. He served as an altar boy at church, graduated from South Side High School and went to work with his father. Bob then spent many years working for Tel-Equipment Company repairing phones and electronics. His later career was with Ace Lock where he worked with customers to design, bid and install security systems with swipe cards and cameras.
Bob was in his late twenties when his friends, Ed and Marie McCreary, invited him over to meet their youngest daughter. But Bob only had eyes for their oldest, Marlane, who was visibly irritated to be forced to attend her sister’s dinner date. Three weeks later Bob and Marlane bought a speed boat together. Nine months later they were married. They were fun and engaged parents to Kristy (Bobbi, Mark, and Mike (Jamie). The family enjoyed camping, fishing and hanging out together. In the 1990s Bob and Marlane bought a little piece of heaven
“on Golden Pond” in the Pymatuning area, spending weekends on the water and in the garden and ultimately enjoying their retirement. They were doting and fun grandparents to Sam, Katie and Nik; Bob loved being the fun uncle to nieces and nephews. Children brought delight and were showered with love and attention.
In retirement, Bob volunteered with the Crimewatch group in North Shenango County, where he enjoyed arranging speakers and setting up interesting meetings. Bob also trained his standard poodles, Sidney and later Bentley, to be therapy dogs. Bob and Sid were fixtures at Meadville hospital and also visited the women’s shelter and local recovery homes. Bob made wonderful friends through Paws Hand Delivered and brought joy and comfort to many. When Bob moved to be closer to his kids, he, Bentley, and Mike continued the Wednesday afternoon visits at The Haven in Ross Township. Bob served as an ambassador, welcoming new residents and helping to set up activities. Sundays were Fun Days with Mark, enjoying pancake concoctions followed by adventures across western Pennsylvania. Bob found love again with Marion and the two quickly became inseparable. He will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 9 AM-10:30 AM at Devlin Funeral Home, Inc 806 Perry Hwy. Pittsburgh, PA 15229, with a Mass of Christian Burial following visitation, 11 AM at Regina Coeli Parish, Church of the Assumption, 45 N. Sprague, Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Hospice & Palliative Care www.FamilyHospicePA.org) or Womens Services of Meadville (www.womensservicesinc.org).
