Robert Alan Crawford
Alan was born in Denville, New Jersey and moved several times in his childhood finally landing in New Town, Connecticut. He passed away on June 6, 2026 in Pittsburgh, PA doing the one thing that he loved after he stopped flying…..riding his motorcycle.
Alan will have a gathering on June 29th with burial at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.
Alan was born to Robert W. Crawford and Irene M. Crawford (Plusczyk) on October 1, 1960 and was an only child. He graduated from New Town High School in 1978. He was then accepted to the United States Air Force Academy. From there, he went to pilot training in Arizona and upon completion of pilot training was stationed in Germany for several years. Alan spoke fluent German as his mother was from Germany and spoke it frequently in his home growing up. Alan actively served until 1988 flying the C130H aircraft. Alan was also a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He received AF commendation medal , AF achievement medal, AF training ribbon, Combat ready medal, small arms expert ribbon, humanitarian service medal, AF overseas service tour, AF outstanding unit award , and AF longevity award with two devices. Alan continued to serve after active duty in the Guard and Reserves. Soon after the completion of his active duty he continued his passion of aviation and became a commercial pilot with Piedmont which became US Airways which later became American Airlines. Alan was a commercial pilot for over 36 years and he loved to fly. He retired in September, 2025.
Alan was an active member at Christ Church at Grove Farms for many years. He regularly attended and was a member of a men’s bible study and volunteering to assist individuals with home repairs. Alan was brilliant. He could fix everything and loved especially fixing broken toys for his grandsons. Alan loved the outdoors. He boated, water skied, camped making the best fires, hiked, RV’d, skydived, snowmobiled, scuba dived, kayaked, took thousands of amazing pictures and loved his motorcycle. He was up to try anything and everything. He loved listening to live music especially the blues and contemporary christian music. He loved to dance, hike and take adventures with his wife.
Alan had deep faith and was working even harder on this after retirement. He was proud of his family, he loved spending time with each of them and loved playing and teaching his grandsons. Alan had the most amazing group of friends that helped him along his way throughout the last 20 plus years. Sadly, he will miss the birth of his first granddaughter Helena who is due any day. But Alan knew that to be absent from the body means you are present with the lord.
Alan is preceded in death by both his parents.
Alan is survived by his wife Brooke Maimone, daughter Julia Crawford (Slade Odell), step children Ashley Maimone and son Wyatt, Hailey Maimone and son Enzo and Cody Maimone.
