The Rev. James S. Ruggiero, 74, of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He was a priest for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, ordained May 16, 1970, by Bishop Vincent Leonard. He attended St. Colman Elementary School, Turtle Creek, graduated from Central Catholic High School, Athenaeum College and St. Meinrad College. His assignments include: parochial vicar, St. Sylvester Parish; religious coordinator, Pauline Auberle Foundation Home; parochial vicar, St. Peter, McKeesport; administrator and pastor, St. Philip Neri Parish; pastor, St. Basil Parish; pastor, St. Bartholomew Parish; secretary for clergy and religious, Diocese of Pittsburgh; pastor, St. Teresa of Avila Parish, replacement ministry, Sacred Heart Parish, Pittsburgh; and parochial vicar/senior priest, St. Louise de Marillac Parish. He also served on the board of directors of Catholic Charities. He was the son of the late Pasquale and Florence Ruggiero; brother of Richard L. Ruggiero and his wife, Felicity, of Bethany, W.Va.; uncle of Christopher J. (Kristin), John P., Marianna L. and Daniel R.; nephew of Dolly Gregowich and Phyllis Ruggiero; also by numerous cousins and many friends. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Translation at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Avila Church, with viewing to follow until 9 p.m. at church. Viewing from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday with Bishop David Zubik as celebrant at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1000 Avila Court, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Contributions may be made to the Auberle Home, 1101 Hartman St., McKeesport, PA 15132, or to Catholic Charities.
