Figura
R.Thomas, DDS
Age 88, of McCandless, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 28, 2026 after a brief illness with metastatic melanoma. Tom was born on December 15, 1937, the son of the late Andrew and Pauline (Andrascik) Figura of Penn Hills. He was the beloved husband of Dr. Judith Haschak Figura, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, and the beloved brother of the late Norman Figura.
Tom was a devoted father to Julie (Dave) Groetsch, Andrew (Laura), Adam (Nicole), and Maribeth (Dave) Kirk, and the proud grandfather to Christopher, David and Elizabeth Groetsch; Charles, Samuel and Benjamin Figura; Natalie and Adam Figura; and Jack and Sasha Kirk.
A graduate of Penn Hills High School (1955), Duquesne University (1959), and the University of Pittsburgh Dental School (1964), Tom served as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corp, stationed in Korea, before practicing dentistry in Evans City for over thirty years. He was a lifelong member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA) fraternal organization, where he held various officer positions including president of the Penn Hills branch. He was a longtime resident of McCandless Township and parishioner of St. Sebastian Church. For the past two decades, he enjoyed splitting his time between Pittsburgh and Naples, Florida.
An avid traveler, Tom loved visiting new places. In addition to spending 400+ days cruising the world, other highlights were taking his ten grandchildren on African safaris and climbing Machu Picchu at the age of 80. He also treasured spending summers at the beach and his home in Emerald Isle, NC, where extended family was always welcome. Tom will be remembered for his deep love of family, his good nature, and his passions for crossword puzzles and gardening.
Visitation is at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15229 on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be held at Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery.
