April 27, 2024 - January 19, 2012

Mildred “Milly” (Temple) Leon, 94, of Ross Township, died Thursday Jan. 19, 2012, after a long illness. She is survived by a large, loving family and many friends, all of whom will sorely miss her kindness, her energy and her tremendous sense of fun. Born May 7, 1917, in Greene County, Milly was one of 12 children of James and Rhoda Jane Temple. As a young woman, she worked as a nanny and loved to dance the Charleston. In 1934, Milly married the late Michael G. Leon, a Greek immigrant; the next year, the couple opened Leon’s Tavern, the popular Ross Township restaurant and bar. A talented actress, Milly was a founding member of the Mellwood Women’s Club and often performed in its theatricals. She belonged to the National Rifle Association and collected guns, but also enjoyed coins and Hummel figurines. She also was an avid bingo and card player. Family was the center of Milly’s life. She was the loving mother of George (the late Annette) Leon, of Ross Township, and Sandra “Sonie” (Jack) Hess, of Sewickley; cherished grandmother of Michael (Diane) Leon, Chris (Sheryl) Leon, Liza Leon, Leslie Leon, Augie Leon, John (Terri) Hess and Rhoda (Tom) Shanley; devoted great-grandmother of John R., Caitlyn and Michael Hess, Sonie, Thomas and Michael Shanley, Samantha and Austin Leon, Jade and Jackie Leon and Courtney, Morgan and Carley Leon; treasured great-great-grandmother of Elayne Leon. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at T.B.DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.
