It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Balash, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully surrounded by close family at the age of 82 on March 28, 2025. Born on January 10, 1943, daughter of the late Lindsay and Helen (Thomas) Nevin. Marilyn lived her entire life in the city she loved.
Marilyn was the proud wife of the late Ralph J. Balash, whom she married on June 21, 1975. She is survived by her son, Joseph Balash (Lisa), daughters, Beverly Struzynski, Linda Kline (Bob), and Rhonda Balash (deceased) along with her sons David Balash (Shawne) and Ralph Balash Jr. (deceased).
Marilyn took great joy in being a grandma to Erin (Thomas) and she is grateful that she was able to see her granddaughter get married. Marilyn was also grandma or Nina to Lindsey (Dutch), Adam (Nicole), Todd (Nikki), RJ, Josh (Shannon), Jason, and Phillip.
Marilyn was a true dog lover, she leaves behind her dear Phoebe. Also her dog Danny passed away in 2016. The toughest thing about her illness is that it took away her ability to garden. She loved to get dirty in God’s fertile soil and create beauty. Marilyn worked as an Executive Assistant for 30 years at a family owned Auto/Heavy Equipment Insurance Claims Adjusting company. She was a Facebook fanatic and she kept her son and daughter-in-law informed on everything family related. She had an awesome sense of humor and was an avid Steelers fan.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, April 2 from 2-4, 6-8 pm at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday April 3 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, St. Teresa of Avila Church. Donations can be made to Animal Friends.
