Katherine Elizabeth (Johe) Voland
Born January 24, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA passed from this life surrounded by those who loved her, into her Lord’s presence on October 22, 2024.
Kathy is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Willis E. Voland Jr. and together they began their life story with, as Kathy always called them, her “3 Perfect Sons.” She was deeply devoted to and very proud of her sons, David W. Voland (Susan), Donald K. Voland (Deborah d), Craig E. Voland (Lorie).
Her sons gave her 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. All of whom she loved dearly. Never forgetting a single birthday and always with a card with a dollar bill inside, no matter how old they were.
Kathy’s dream as a young woman, just graduating high school was to become a nurse, and she held onto that dream until her sons were old enough to help care for themselves and then she accomplished that dream of becoming an LPN. She was a kind, caring and some would say, a no-nonsense nurse. She worked for many years in both a hospital and the nursing home setting and was most compassionate to those needing a gentle touch and some conversation.
In her daily life outside of nursing she enjoyed cooking and baking, always searching for new recipes to try out on her children and grandchildren. She loved sewing and crafts; she loved planting flowers in her garden, planting her favorite flower which was the simple daisy. And Kathy collected chickens. Little chicken Knick knacks could be found all over her home, in every room through the years, as her collection grew, Kathy’s chickens became quite the topic of conversation at family gatherings. Everyone wondered who would inherit this collection someday, and there was much laughter as we nominated anyone who was not present at dinner that day. Kathy would be happy to know that those chickens now reside in the homes of her children and grandchildren. Even traveling as far as Germany where they will always be a reminder of her and the many family gatherings.
Along with her children, grand and great grandchildren, she was loved by her sister Carole Trakoval (Robert d), of NY, the late Mary Lou Nock (Frank), the late Edward Johe (Anne d) and the late Olga McFarland (Howard d), and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy faithfully attended and in her younger years, was a very involved member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freedom, PA. Her favorite song was Jesus Loves Me.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8PM at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME of CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Rd., Cranberry Twp., PA 16066. Funeral Services will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 60 Rochester Rd., Freedom, PA 15042. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Price of Peace Lutheran Church.

Dear Willis and families, I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish I could have kept in touch since her illness.
She was a dear friend and I’m glad we did have so many good times playing cards. Kathy always had a quick laugh and a quick sense of humor.
Kathy’s obituary is endearing. You all loved her so much.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Toni Baldwin.
Kathy was such a nice person she always made me smile on Sundays when I would see her, I’m truly so sorry for your loss during this time voland family she will always be remembered and missed prayer for you during this difficult time 🙁 . She always loved helping Willis in the kitchen for church events was a very kind sweet funny woman
Although I didn’t know Kathy that long, her and Willis vigorously welcomed me to Prince of Peace and made this newbie feel at home. We had more than a few conversations and told me quite a bit about her past. She liked to hear me sing and chided me about sitting up front in church where she couldn’t hear me and told me to sit behind her. She is one of the church members that went out of her way to let me know I had a place at Prince of Peace. I will really miss her, but am positive she is at peace with the Lord and will be welcoming newcomers to eternity just as she did to me.
I will really miss Kathy. She is my sister Lorie’s mother-in-law. She was so kind to us when my parents, siblings, and I would travel to Pittsburgh. I always got such a kick out of her and her sense of humor. She must have been a great mom, because all 3 of her sons stayed married which in today’s society is not common. I am sure she had a lot to do with that. My siblings, my sister-in-law, and my ex husband, Dan were so sad to hear of her illness and death. I asked our Mother Mary to be with her and to give her a peaceful passing. The world will be quiet and not as exciting with her gone. Loved, loved, loved that lady!!!!
Bill and I are so sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. We were glad to have known her through your family.
Dear Voland Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Although I never met Katherine, I know she left behind a loving and wonderful family.

I am so sorry for the lost of your wife and mother. She was a very kind person and always had a smile on her face. She will be missed.
Voland Family,
Knowing your family for my entire life, I wanted to express my deepest sympathy to each of you. Our mothers certainly knew how to have a good time, in our younger years! So many memories. I am very sorry for your loss, and I know that she is now in paradise, watching over. May the Lord raise her up and bless each one of you. Sending love and support during this difficult time.
