Joseph Edward Pace, age 87, of Ross Township, passed away on September 26, 2023. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Bernice Anna (Nuzzo) Pace and his two daughters, Lori Ann Pace and Tina Pace Norman. His greatest title was that of Pappy Joe to his one and only granddaughter, Jena Elizabeth Norman, who brought so much joy to his life. He is also survived by his two sisters, Eleanor Woods and Delores (Art) Grote, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Patrick and Mae Elizabeth Pace, his sister Anna Mitchell Kelly, and an infant daughter, Mary. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Joe worked as a truck driver for the Pittsburgh Press for 33 years where he was a proud member of Teamsters 211. He was an avid volunteer at St. Teresa of Avila Church and found great joy in spending time with his family – especially at the beach, watching any Pittsburgh sports team and taking care of his home and yard for over 40 years. In 1992, Joe received one of the greatest gifts. He was the 54th heart transplant performed at Allegheny General Hospital. We truly cannot thank every single person who helped him along his transplant journey – from nurses, to doctors to clinical coordinators. We were blessed to have had you all. Dr. George J. McGovern, Jr., we are eternally indebted to you as you have allowed us the past 31 years to enjoy time with Dad. He was here for every milestone and it is truly because of your angelic work. To our donor family, who we were never able to thank personally, there are no words to express how grateful we are for your selfless gift. As we know March 28,1992 must hold much sadness and grief, you gave Dad life and for that we are forever grateful. Friends will be received at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy., Pittsburgh, PA 15229 on Sunday October 1st, from 2-6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Teresa of Avila Church, 800 Avila Ct, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AHN Cardiovascular Institute at Allegheny General Hospital; 320 East North Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

To a family who welcomed me and made me feel like I was one of their own. My memories are filled with love and laughs. So many laughs. My heart is broken knowing how much this iconic man went home and how much he will be missed. Learning to live differently is the hardest thing we do in life once we lose someone we love. Day but day…we will all laugh when we talk about the good ole days while we fight back every tear. Till we met again Mr Pace.

    Dear Tina and family,
I just read the notice of your dear dad’s passing. Remembering the passing of my own father, let’s me know how difficult it will be as you move forward. Try to reflect on happy moments spent with him and eventually you will feel his loving gaze upon you. I know this is possible, having experienced it myself. He is love. Love is all around you. You’ll see it in your husband’s and daughters presence in your life. May God bless and protect all of you.

  • Teresa G Miller

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Tina.
