Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, June 8, 2026, at St. Alexis Church (Saint Aidan Parish).
Josefina “Josie” Stofko, 87, of McCandless Township passed away on June 4, 2026. Daughter of the late Jose and Mercedes Sandoval Garcia Colon; wife of 63 years to the late Richard Stofko; mother to Christine, Diane (Nick) Sfamenos, Michael (Sarah), Jennifer (Seth) Bailey, the late Richard “Ricky”; grandmother to Jessica (Jason), Amanda, Paul, Megan, Rae Anna (Christian), John, Elijah, and Noah; great-grandmother to Deanna (Liam), Dylan, Jacob, Ryan, and Lucy; sister in law to Madeline (the late Edward), and the late James. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends considered family, and her beloved dog, Toby.
Josefina, a beautiful Puerto Rican girl, met and married a handsome military boy from Pittsburgh. They built a life together in Pittsburgh but she never forgot her Caribbean roots. Josie loved her culture, traveling, family, and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Almost every holiday and birthday was spent at her house. Her family especially loved her Spanish rice, a staple at every family function. A family joke is that she was “nicer” to her grandkids and great-grandkids because she spoiled them by letting them get away with so much more than her own kids. She also spoiled her boy, Toby, rotten. Always up for an adventure, Josie was ready for a road trip, shopping trip, or any type of outing. She was a lover of music that she passed on to her family, especially Neil Dimond and Andrea Bocelli. The Stofko Family is fiercely competitive with card games. Josie enjoyed time spent at the dining room table playing with family. Many moments in her life were spent enjoying the simple pleasures of life with those she loved, like sharing a banana split, going to see a game or dance recital, relaxing on the patio, or eating chocolate covered cherries. Faith was very important to Josie. As a member of Saint Aidan Parish, Josie regularly attended Mass and did her best to raise her family in the faith. She always celebrated St. Joseph’s Day on March 19. Even though Josie became a true Pittsburgher by insisting on having fresh pork and sauerkraut every New Year’s Day, she returned to Puerto Rico as often as she could to visit with her lifelong friends (who are indeed family). She was short, but she was mighty. Nana will be missed beyond belief.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her.

Nana was like my own grandmother growing up, my mother and her still remain close and there is no memory that I don’t have without being in her house. I think of her daily and I will continue to do so. I was grateful to have her be part of my life. I love you, Nana give Skip a big hug for me, rest well
