John J. Paytas, beloved Husband, Dad, Pappy, and Friend, unexpectedly passed on July 13, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on February 25, 1961, in Pittsburgh, PA. John spent his life sharing his love for carpentry, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, watching football, and giving his all to those around him whenever he was needed.
John leaves behind his loving wife, Kathleen “Kate” Paytas, to whom he was married on May 18, 2006. He was a devoted father to his children: Kayla (Ryan), Isabella, Stepchildren: Steven (Kari), and Michael (Natalie), and the cherished Pappy to his grandchildren, Logan, Gavin, and Jasper. He is also survived by his brother, Rick (Sherri) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Pvt. Dylan R. in 2005, parents, Paul and Bette Paytas; and brothers, Paul and Dave.
Loved by everyone, John’s infectious personality drew people to him as he was never one to shy away from a quick witted joke. He enjoyed cruising on his motorcycle, listening to music, enjoying an iced cold beer, and spending evenings by a fire with a cigar in hand. Family was at the center of his world, and he shared a special bond with his neighbors, considering them an extended family. Often affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of the Hood,” John had a unique ability to connect with anyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Legacies Alive, helping to continue John’s legacy of caring for others and honoring the memory of his son.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday from 4-8 pm at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. Blessing services will be held Saturday at 12p at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the Blessing service at the Paytas home.

RIP John, Thank you for all the Memories, almost daily we say a line that you used around us. telling Margie to get out the Penski file is only a start, Dylan and Big Ed are with you now.
