Of Ross Township, on Monday, December 5, 2016. Beloved husband of Joan (McGuire) O’Brien; loving father of J. Brendan O’Brien and Daniel Conor O’Brien (Alyson); dear grandfather of Scarlett O’Brien; brother of Lee Schubert. He was a graduate of Catholic University of America Law School and Gannon University with a B.S. in accounting. Admitted to the Bar in 1969 and a CPA in 1974. He had extensive experience in workers compensation, medical malpractice, business, finance as well as Municipal Law. He served as Solicitor Township and its water authorities as well as counsel to the Byzantine Arch Diocese of Pittsburgh. Jack participated in many financial transactions, including those for school districts, municipalities, authorities, PennVest, PIDA, Mellon Bank, SWIF, PHICO, and CAT funds as well as funds for the Pennsylvania Insurance Dept. Moreover Jack acted as counsel to the Allegheny County Board of Property Assessment Appeals and Review and the Allegheny County Study Commission. In addition to his professional obligations, Jack participated in countless community organizations and committees. As the incorporator of Lawyers concerned for Lawyers of Pennsylvania was the initial board treasurer and handled the incorporation and 501C3 approvals. Additionally he was an officer of and counsel to and board member of the Catholic Youth Association and co-chair of its annual Art Rooney Awards Annual Dinner. He served served as an officer and board member of Killick, Inc., as a board member of ALCOSAN, Gannon University Alumni Association, and Pittsburgh Child Guidance Center, and as a committee member of the United Way. In addition to lecturing on various legal and financial topics, he had volunteered in local, state, county, and National political campaigns, he was especially active in the Robert F. Kennedy and Edmund Muskie Presidential Campaigns. Family and friends received Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. Funeral Services Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Church at Grove Farm, 249 Duff Rd., Sewickley, PA 15143. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to PCUC or the Salvation Army.
