Joan Miscoe was born January 6, 1927 in Johnstown, the daughter of S. Edward and Helen (Vindisch) Miscoe.  After surviving a lengthy childhood illness that affected her later in life, she was class vice-president and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1945.  Joan worked at the Johnstown Tribune, where her father Ed was a typesetter and proof reader for decades.  She greatly enjoyed her roles in advertising layout and as an executive assistant for several years.

Joan and Tom Young were married September 9, 1950 in Johnstown.  She was an excellent mother and homemaker, raising four children while relocating every few years, from Monessen PA to Lakewood and Rocky River OH, to Allison Park PA, Elyria OH and then back to Allison Park and finally Valencia in 2007.  She was an active member of St. Ursula Parish in Allison Park, and more recently at St. Richard Catholic Church in Gibsonia.

Joan loved to compete and was active in multiple bridge groups.  She reveled in all types of word games including Scrabble, Words with Friends and crossword puzzles.  Earlier in life, Joan was a golfer, once winning the women’s nine-hole championship at Wildwood Golf Club.  She delighted in cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling to see family, cruises, wallpapering (thanks Mom), playing the piano, and making dried flower arrangements.  She will also be fondly remembered for her charity work, including Meals on Wheels and the Christ Child Society.  Joan was exceptionally upbeat, positive and never had a bad word to say about anyone or in any situation.

Visitation will be at 1PM Saturday, February 15th, at Saint Richard, 3841 Dickey Rd. Gibsonia, PA, with a funeral mass following at 2PM.  In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Christ Child Society of Pittsburgh (204 37th St. #200, Pittsburgh 15201) or Essence of Love Animal Rescue (429 Wimer Dr., Pittsburgh 15237) in Joan’s memory. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME of CRANBERRY.
