James F. “Chubby” Hirsch, of Bellvue, died Saturday Jan. 24, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Mary Ann “Boots” (Fisher) Hirsch; father of Kim E. Motycka (Steve), Amy K. O’Neill (Leo) and the late Frank E. Hirsch and James T. “Pat” Hirsch and his surviving spouse, Jane; loving grandfather of Nicole Motycka, Steven Motycka (Cait), Michael Motycka, Amanda, James, Frankie, Patrick and Julianne Hirsch. Chub had a scholarship to the University of Florida for football and baseball. After winning the SEC batting title, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox. Chub was the former mayor of Bellvue and a retired tipstaff for the Allegheny County Courts. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME INC., 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ferdinand Church.
