Gordon L. Ries, 96, of Economy Boro, died on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Heritage Valley Hospital, Sewickley. He was born in Meyersdale, PA on June 12, 1927 to the late Albert and Louisa Ries. Preceded in death were his wife, Ada, son David and grandson Nicholas. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frederick and Donald and his sisters Beatrice Hicks, Elizabeth Jeffreys and Hilda VonMoose. Surviving are son Gordon, Jr. (Janet) and daughter Christine (Lacy) Marcum. Also surviving are grandchildren, Franklin (Carrie) Holdren, Ryan (Tracie) Holdren, Dustin Holdren, Ashley (Bradley) Wilson, step-grandchildren David (Paula) Marcum and Stacy (Ryan) Luke and numerous great-grandchildren.

Drafted out of high school for the War Effort, Gordon served his country in the Army 6th Infantry Division overseas in Korea. Gordon continued his education after the service at Vale Technical Institute in Blairsville PA. He was a fitter at American Bridge for 32 years. He was also locally known for his home remodeling and roofing.

Gordon served 14 years as Assistant Fire Chief for the Economy Volunteer Fire Department and was a founding member of the Economy Ambulance Service. He also loved restoring cars and was a member of the Pitt Birds Thunderbird Club and the Rod & Classic Car Club.

A private burial, with military honors, was held at Rehoboth Cemetery, Economy Boro.
