Francis Hunkele

78, of Ross Twp., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. He was the devoted husband of the late Ilona Mae “Mickey” Hunkele, his wife of 51 years.

Born on August 3, 1937 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret (Heyl) Hunkele.

Fran had served in the US Army in Korea. He retired from AT&T after 35 years and worked at Alcoa for 10 years. He loved spending time with family and friends, working in his garden, feeding birds and tinkering in his workshop while smoking his pipe.

He was the loving father to four children; Kurt (Margaret) Hunkele, Karen Hunkele Nestler (Jim Garvey), Craig (Beth) Hunkele, and Elaine Hunkele Clark; Proud grandfather of Sarah, Christina, Patrick, Alyssa, Autumn, John, and Jason, all of Pittsburgh. He is survived by three sisters, Marcella Jakovac, Rosemary Rau and Patricia Rossulek and brother, William; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Fran was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ilona Mae “Mickey”; his brothers Albert, Clarence, Richard, Clyde, and Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:00 AM in St. Teresa of Avila Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC.
