Dr. Samuel M. Rice, of Cranberry, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte C. (Corner) Rice; father of Veronica (James) Guerriero, Samuel M. Rice, Elizabeth Rice-Giesey, Nancy S. (Jessie) Maupin, Susan N. (Lloyd) Hyde and July S. (Bruce Ferguson) Patterson; also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dr. Rice was the first doctor in Cranberry Township practicing for 53 years, retiring in 2003. Friends received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, 724-772-8800, where service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Cranberry Library.
