John Agnew Byers, M.D., 83, of McCandless, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1948 and practiced general surgery in Pittsburgh for more than 40 years. Dr. Byers completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital, was on staff at St. John’s and Divine Providence hospitals and was one of the first surgeons on staff when North Hills Passavant Hospital opened. He was a medical officer in the Navy during the Korean War. His healing hands touched many lives and hearts during his lifetime, and he will be missed by his friends, patients and relatives. Beloved husband of the late Dolores (Morrissey) Byers. Loving father of Deborah (Stephen) Schechter, of North Carolina; the Rev. Dr. J. Bruce (Shelley) Byers, of McCandless, and Robert S. (Janet) Byers, M.D., of Indiana. Grandfather of Chas Jordan, Becky Kcehowski and Shannon, Andrew and Phillip Byers. Great-grandfther of Grace Kcehowski. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Ross. Services at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bakerstown Presbyterian Church. Everyone please meet at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bakerstown Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
