Dr. Harry Earl Pople Jr., 76, of Ross Township, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at his home in North Hills. He was born May 18, 1934, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Harry Earl Pople and Emma Jo Pople. A professor emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh, Harry attended MIT for undergraduate studies and achieved a Doctorate of Philosophy from Carnegie Institute of Technology. After spending many years teaching at Pitt, Harry went on to found Seer Systems where he was a pioneer in artificial intelligence. His efforts laid the groundwork for many of the expert systems now in use in the medical and nuclear management arenas today. A beloved husband, Harry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Trondle Pople; his three children, Laura Elizabeth Pople, of Perth Amboy, N.J., Richard Lewis Pople, of Reston, Va., and George Harris Pople, of Wexford: and four grandchildren, Haley Pople, Morgan Pople, Grace Pople and James Pople. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Ross Township, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seer Farms, PO Box 91, Jackson, NJ 08527.
