David E. Wallowicz, of Seven Fields, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by deep love and devotion to his family.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, Dave carried a deep appreciation for the simple things in life: good music, especially jazz, old movies, and time spent with the people he loved. Affectionately known as “Sonny” by those closest to him, he was a steady, caring man who expressed himself not through grand gestures, but through a lifetime of showing up. Family meant everything to him, and he carried that commitment with quiet pride throughout his life.
On June 18, 1960, Dave married Margaret Ann (Ryan) Wallowicz, and together they built a remarkable life over 65 years of marriage, rooted in loyalty, faith, and a shared dedication to their family. They raised their children in Penn Hills, filling their home with love, stability, and lasting memories, before moving to Mars/Seven Fields in 2004, where they continued to enjoy time with family and friends in their later years.
Dave was the proud and devoted father of Diane (Dean) Balouris, David Wallowicz, and Thomas (Tracy) Wallowicz. He was a loving grandfather to Anthony (Alexandra) Balouris, Elaina (Brian) Tabb, Demetrios Balouris, Daniel Wallowicz, Jonathan Wallowicz, and Maggie Wallowicz, and a cherished great-grandfather to Tino Balouris, Kalliopi Tabb, and Kyra Tabb.
Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Ann; his parents, David Wallowicz and Josephine Manuel (Wallowicz) Coleman; and his brother, Ronald Coleman. He is survived by his sister-in-law Diane Coleman; his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Teresa Coleman; and many extended family members who held a special place in his heart. Especially dear to him was his cousin Diane Scott and her husband, Ross Scott, whose close bond with Dave reflected the deep value he placed on family. Through Margaret Ann, he was also welcomed into a large and loving extended Brownsville family who remained close to him throughout his life.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Dave spent much of his career at the University of Pittsburgh before retiring. He lived by example, consistent, humble, and reliable, and found his greatest joy in simply being present: during holidays, family gatherings, birthday celebrations, and quiet everyday moments at home.
His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the example he set through a life of humility, strength, and unwavering commitment.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township, PA, on Tuesday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Family and friends will be received at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township on Monday, April 20 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. ET.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to St. John Lutheran Care.

My deepest condolences. I’m so grateful I had the chance to get to know Pap more over the past couple of months. He shared stories from his childhood, happy memories with his family, and sometimes we would just talk about simple, everyday things. I will always cherish those moments. Pap was a wonderful man who brought so much joy and love to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed.
To Sonny’s family,
I am so sorry for your loss and equally sorry that I will not be able to attend the visitation. I have some medical issues that are being addressed for most of the afternoon on Monday. I have lots of memories of our younger days in Lawrenceville and the “Cousin” gathering at my house in Monroeville several years ago. We all had a great time reminiscing about the good old days. I spent time with David at your Mother’s visitation and am so sorry for the loss of both of them. They are together now and that is what they would have wanted.
Love,
Cousin John Manuel
I wished I could’ve gotten to know David prior to meeting him on my unit at St John’s. One thing I can say for sure about him is “he was a kind loving soul and his family was everything to him!” I had the pleasure of meeting many of them and you could tell what he meant to them as well. May God wrap you all in his loving arms during this difficult time. RIP David 🙏🏻
