James Lee Soffer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of James Lee Soffer, 77, of Pittsburgh, PA.  James was a prominent commercial real estate executive and director based in Pittsburgh, currently serving as the President of the Soffer Organization.  He is the son of the late Joseph and Violet (Gusky) Soffer who were pioneering figures in Pittsburgh real estate and the founders of the Soffer Organization.

Jimmy was passionate about his photography and loved his antiques and collectables.  He will be remembered for his soft spoken gentle nature, kindness, as well as his sense of humor and adventurous spirit.  He is survived by his long time partner, Judy (Janie) Bentz, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends, and employees.

There will be no visitation or service at this time.

Jimmy’s legacy of kindness and humor will continue in the lives of all who loved him.  Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his memory

We really loved James Lee. We had many adventures together when we all lived in San Francisco back in our 30s. He had a great sense of humor and a love of life. One of our favorite summertime trips was to the clothing optional Dog Town Pond in West Marin where we floated on our leaky rafts. We stayed in touch all these years mostly sending photos and articles that made us all laugh. You truly will be missed.

    Memorial message

Jimmy was more than a partner—he was my teammate, my best friend. In the everyday moments, he showed me what true companionship looked like: kindness, patience, laughter, and unwavering support. Spontaneous adventures, made life feel fuller, brighter, warmer. Even in disagreements, there was respect and love. In quiet times, being together was enough. Now, though his physical presence is gone, the bond we shared will remain untouched by time. He taught me to be patient and helped me to enjoy my life once again. Jimmy quietly expressed his love for me continuously. This tribute is about the love, respect and commitment I’ll always feel towards him. And for that, I’ll forever be grateful.
