Cynthia L. Hartwig, affectionately known as Cyndi, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on August 6, 1953, daughter of the late Clara Grupp and Wm. Lester Grupp. Cyndi was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Cyndi was married to her devoted husband, Thomas Hartwig, on December 31, 1987, creating a bond that was a true partnership in love and laughter. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home, where family and friends were always cherished and celebrated.
Cyndi is survived by her two adoring children, Adam (Jen) and Megan (Michael), who carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. She was also a proud and loving “Mimi” to her granddaughters, Maelynne and Ellie, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Cyndi took her role as “MiMi” to heart, pouring love and care into every moment she shared with “her girls.” She delighted in creating little bits of magic; cherished memories, and special routines that were uniquely theirs. Always first in the school pickup line, she set the bar high–making every pickup feel like an event and leaving quite the act for the rest of us to try to follow.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings and many beloved grand dogs. Cyndi was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Rich Grupp, and her sisters, Eleanor Cyphers, Joanne Chizmar, and Marge Draskovich, mother in law Bertha B. Hartwig, and father-in-law Leo W. Hartwig, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
Cyndi was devoted to her Catholic faith and serving her brothers and sisters faithfully as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the 5PM Saturday Vigil Mass at Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church.
Cyndi was an avid bird lover and also enjoyed her flower garden every year. Her greatest joy was her children Adam and Megan, their spouses, and daughters.
Cyndi had a remarkable eye for the little things. Whether it was a thoughtful “just because” treasure, a favorite treat she’d surprise someone with, or pointing out the simple beauty of a bird outside the window, she had a gift for turning ordinary moments into something special. She found joy in the quiet details of life — waves crashing in the ocean, a perfect weather window open kind of day, a picture perfect sunrise or sunset, or an unplanned Sunday drive — The memories she created in those simple, beautiful ways are ones we will carry with us forever.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Devlin Funeral Home in North Hills on Monday, where visitation will be held from 2-4, 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Sts. John and Paul Church, part of St. Luke The Evangelist Parish, where Cyndi was an active member.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cyndi’s memory to St. Luke The Evangelist Parish or the Audobon Association.

I was also one of the lucky ones to sit in Cyndi & Tom’s ‘section’ for Saturday 5 pm Mass…
She was truly one of a kind and wonderful 💕
And we miss her already…
Tom, we are lifting you and the kids up in our prayers. You are not alone…

Cyndi,
You were one of the first people we met when we moved into the neighborhood, and we felt you truly watched over all of us. Your neighborly kindness will be deeply missed, but we will still make sure to give a warm welcome to Sadie each day we pass by. Rest in heavenly peace, the Gnilka Family
Our sympathy and prayers to you Tom and your family. May God bless her soul and keep her at peace.

I have only known Cyndi for a few years, but it seems like much longer. I looked forward to seeing her at the 5:00 Mass & sharing “her” pew or the one behind her; I will surely miss her. Rest in peace, Cyndi. Sending sincere condolences and prayers to the Hartwig family🙏🙏
