Uncle Charlie was an extraordinary husband, father, brother and uncle! Preceded in death by Aunt Sal and brothers Earl (Martha), Kenny (Rose), Don (Pearl) and soon to be feared by all heavenly deer and rabbits! His sister-in-crime Betty will be lost without him and Ralph will miss him too. Unquestionably, he was the Kress/Smolin family’s heart, the twinkling eye entertainer, high-ball maker, hunter extraordinaire. I think I can speak for all of us in saying we loved being simply being with him. He told stories which made us howl and giggle, and laughed that “Uncle Charlie” laugh we loved to hear. The joy of Sandy Lake vacations, the Sunday family cookouts and ritual Christmas gatherings at Uncle Charlie’s will never be forgotten by us, nor will Aunt Sally’s ice cream squares with strawberries. Uncle Charlie loved kids – we knew that and loved him like crazy -his devoted grandkids Eric, Ryan and Lindsay, his 21 nieces and nephews, as well as his great nieces and nephews. Life for him has changed not ended! Our sadness will be is joy.
