Barbara Ronksley

Age 89, of Cranberry Twp., on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, born in Lafayette, IN to the late Lewis and Alma Kay Withrow. Beloved wife of the late Robert I. Ronksley for 67 years; loving mother of Martha Kay Heidkamp (Bill), Thomas I. Ronksley (Donna), the late Diana Lynn Koehler and the late Robert L. Ronksley; proud grandmother of Brian, Justin (Tracy), Kristopher (Jennifer), Karie (El), Aaron (Lindsay) and Adrian (Anthony); and proud great-grandmother of nine. Barbara took an active role in farming her parents’ land in Indiana until she met Bob at Purdue University where they both were students. They married in 1947. Bob’s career took them to Los Angeles, CA, Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, PA. In 1972, they moved to Erie, where she finished her college education with a degree in Environmental Sciences from Mercyhurst College, graduating in the same class as her son, Bob. In 1993, she and Bob moved to Conneaut Lake, PA, then to Cranberry Twp. in 2006, and Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community in 2010. Barbara was strong in her faith and love of family. She was an active volunteer in many organizations, including her church and Habitat for Humanity. She loved playing bridge, creating beautiful quilts, gardening, reading and traveling all over the world. Barbara was a wonderful role model for all, and loved and respected by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Twp., PA. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Monday.
