Service: Saturday, February 15, 2025, 2 pm; Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township

Barbara J. George, 72, of New Sewickley Township, passed away peacefully from pulmonary hypertension and right-sided heart failure on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Barbara was born to Rocco J. George and Mary C. (Trakofler) George. Barbara grew up in Penn Hills and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Shadyside, in 1970. After graduation, Barbara worked at West Penn Hospital to pay for her college education. After earning her Management Information Science/Information Technology degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she went to work at Alcoa. Barbara retired from a successful career at Alcoa after 37 years of service, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond. She considered the lifelong friendships with her fellow Alcoans as one of her most treasured accomplishments. Wanting to continue the connections with her former colleagues, she was an active and contributing member of PARC (Pittsburgh Alcoa Retirees Club). Barbara loved to learn, continuously looked for personal growth opportunities and was a member of several professional organizations after her retirement. She also enjoyed the arts, theater, shopping and socializing with friends.

Barbara is survived by her beloved sister and best friend Carolyn A. George, extended family, and many friends who will miss her. She is preceded in death by her parents Rocco and Mary.

Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 12 to 2 pm with a blessing service at 2 pm at the Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township, 2678 Rochester Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cornerstone of Beaver County (TCBC), 600 Sixth St., Beaver Falls, PA 15010.

I worked with Barbara for a number of years – out at the Alcoa New Kensington Data center and then eventually as a member of Paul Stamatakis’ team . Barbara became a personal friend and my wife, Jen and I along with some others went to see theater and have dinner with her several times – I remember her as kindness and her intelligent and insightful views on politics and human nature. I’m saddened by her passing – the world was a better place for her being in it.

Barbie, as she allowed me to call her, was a brilliant shining Gem. She brings loving warm memories to not only myself but my family when she acted as our adoptive Aunt for my children and attending dance recitals and other events. Our family doesn’t live close and this gave us a warm feeling in our hearts. She will be hugging your mother, who I was very close to as well.l, as well as the rest of her family. Prayers to you my dear friend Carolyn. Love from Mikki, Mark, Shannon & Kyle

Carolyn, My sincere condolences. I will always remember Barbara for her kindness and compassion as well as intelligence.
Of course, I will never forget the day you both arrived at ALCOA Rockdale, Texas, for BBQ.
Barbara was a delight to have on our Information Processing staff, she made significant contributions and was loved by everyone. Her life was one of giving and serving others and she excelled. Her memory will live on in our hearts.

    Dear Carolyn,
I did not know Barbara during my Alcoa career, but I had the privilege of meeting her while on the PARC board. She was a delight to know and work with, and I have many fond memories of her. May your happy memories shine on as the years go by.

My sympathy to her sister and family. Barb was a great person and pit mate of mine at Alcoa. She was always so friendly and nice. Rest in Peace.

Carolyn, I’m so sorry to see your sister has passed. The Earth Day trees that she gave to you for me to plant are growing tall and healthy on my land as a tribute to her. I will keep you in my prayers.
