BACHELER
BARBARA
Passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at her home in Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, Cranberry, following a brief illness. She was 94. Predeceased by her husband, Albert; and daughter, Lee. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Skip Battaglia) of Rochester, NY; son-in-law, Mike Largen of Chapel Hill, NC; and her two grandchildren, Ada Clinton (Travis Clinton) of Rochester, NY and Stephen Largen of Columbia, SC. Born in Somerville, MA, Barbara was a woman ahead of her time. She graduated from Tufts University summa cum laude at the age of 20. While raising her family in Buffalo, NY, she earned her Masters in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo and became head librarian at Clearfield Library in Williamsville, NY. Helping a library patron find a book or research a question gave her great joy and satisfaction. Married to her college sweetheart for over 65 years, Barbara successfully combined creating a loving home for her family while keeping her keen and curious mind active. Following a move to Franklin Park in 1978, she worked for a number of years in the Sewickley Library. When she and her husband moved to Sherwood Oaks in 2001, Barbara brought her skills to that community’s library as well. Her love of family, good friends, books, lively gatherings, and classy clothes were her hallmarks. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at the auditorium at Sherwood Oaks, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Township, PA, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to Sherwood Oaks specifying the library fund. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME of CRANBERRY.
