Anne Chapas

February 16, 2017

Anne Chapas, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, after living an active and full life. She was preceded in death by Frank Chapas, her beloved husband of 67 years. She will be missed by her children, William Peter (Connie) Chapas, Tom Chapas, Chuck (Mary Lee) Chapas, and Marianne (Reggie) Bonfield; treasured grandmother of Anne Chapas (Yannis Bakos), Allison Chapas (Robert Joseph), Christopher (Stefany) Bonfield, and Jonathan Bonfield; cherished great grandmother of Melina and Andreas Bakos and Violet Joseph; and devoted Katina “Teenee” Tanner and Jen Krepps. She is also survived by numerous caring nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anne was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was a dedicated volunteer at the church’s original annual Greek food festival and many that followed. She especially enjoyed serving delicious Greek pastries and dancing to Greek music.
While raising four children, Anne worked at the family business, Chapas Hotel, Bar and Parking, located on the Northside. She also retired from Gimbels, where she had gone to work part-time over the Christmas holidays and then stayed for 30 years.
Her devotion to family and friends was extraordinary and unwavering. Known to all as “”Yiayia””, her contagious smile, sense of humor, soft-spoken manner and constant love, will be dearly missed.
A special thanks to the staff of Cumberland Crossing Manor for their kindness, care, and love over the past 4 ½ years.
