Alice Bennett

Alice Malone Bennett, 89, of Albany, Ore., passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at Lydia’s House at the Mennonite Home. She was born May 3, 1919, in Sharpsburg, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Schnieder) Bender. Alice was very talented and loved to sew and create. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed to bowl. Several years ago, Alice did some modeling and appeared in a few magazines. She moved to Albany in August 2000. Alice married James Alexander Malone Oct. 22, 1938, in Pittsburgh. He died July 6, 1978. She later married George Bennett, Dec. 4, 1982, in Pittsburgh. He died in August 2000. Survivors include daughters, Pat and her husband, Dr. Armin “Bud” Olsen, of Albany, and Kathleen and her husband, Richard Bennett, of Greensburg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Alice was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles “Bud” Bender; and sisters, Ethel Middleton, June Mills and Shirley Hastings. Family will greet friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday with funeral services at 1 p.m. at the T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Burial at the Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 285 Highland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15229.
