Albert J. Hartge

Albert James Hartge, 72, of Economy (formerly of Somerset County) departed this life on November 2, 2006. He was born, December 6, 1933, in Johnsburg, the youngest son of the late Edward and Olga (Grenke) Hartge.

Albert served in the United States Army and retired from the American Bridge Company after 32 years. Later he was employed by the Economy Boro Municipal Authority until his second retirement. He then Albert was a member of Rehoboth Lutheran Church where he served on the cemetery association, was a member of the dartball club and was an usher. He loved the outdoors, working in his garden, blacksmithing and traveling to his “”second”” home in Johnsburg.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Jane (Emerick) Hartge; a son, James (Lori) Hartge, Daugherty Township; two daughters: Lori (Scott) Shoup and Heidi Hartge all of Economy; three sisters: Hilda Colflesh, Conway; Emma Hartman, Meyersdale; Edith (Bernnie) Cramer, Latrobe; and a brother, Dale Hartge, Baden; and a very special friend, “”brother”” John Steel. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Amanda & Ashley Hartge and Nathan, Joshua & Jacob Shoup and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family friends.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his stepmother, Annie (Klink) Hartge; and his in-laws, Clarence and Bessie (Brick) Emerick.

Funeral services will be held at Rehoboth Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 11:00 AM with his pastor, Rev. Scott C. Gross, officiating and assisted by family friend, Rev. Janice Altenburger.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “”Rehoboth Handbell Fund””, Rehoboth Church, 2800 Conway Wallrose Road, Baden, PA 15005.

The family would like to thank Forbes Hospice (especially Joann and her crew) for helping them throughout this difficult time.
