Service: There will be a funeral mass at the Church of the Assumption, Regina Coeli parish, in Bellevue at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Friends will be received at the church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.

Vera Mussman (Elvera Sanfilippo) 1924-2026

Age 101, from Greentree and recently of McCandless Township. Mom passed away peacefully after several special visits from family. Heaven has gained an angel in welcoming our mother, Vera. Anybody who knew her loved her and enjoyed her warm personality and big hugs. Even at 101 she made you feel like the most special person in the room. Vera was the youngest of 6 children of Charles (Calogero) and Angelina Bracco Sanfilippo, who both came to America from Villarosa, Sicily. Family was everything to Vera and if you knew our mother, you were family. She loved nothing more than entertaining and cooking for a crowd, but most especially for her husband, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Nobody ever left Vera’s hungry! Mom was also a hard-worker as well as being kind, compassionate, resilient, intelligent and a fun-loving person. Mom was always at her best singing and dancing, which we did at almost every family gathering. She loved music, especially the big bands and the music of Frank Sinatra.

Vera was a devoted Catholic and loved her faith as much as anything else in her life. She said the rosary several times a day and was steadfast in her belief that she would be reunited with her loved ones in eternity, especially with her beloved husband, Jim.

Vera was pre-deceased by her loving and devoted husband, James, and her siblings; Luella Bellanca (Guy); Josephine Sanfilippo; Sam Sanfilippo (Judy); Katherine Sforzini (Bob) and Rose Scaletta (Frank).

Vera was most proud of her two daughters, Karen and Marilyn, who were indeed her treasures; her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the light of her life. Vera is survived by her daughters Karen (Tony Belcastro) and Marilyn (John McCue) and her adored grandchildren Amanda Belcastro (Marshall), Curtis Belcastro (Aleah), Andrew Belcastro (Kelsi), Megan Georgevich (Zach), Erin McCue and her sweet great-granddaughter, Delilah Belcastro. Grandma has left a loving and enduring legacy for all of them. Vera also has many surviving and special nieces, nephews and cousins.

We’d like to thank the staff at Ridgecrest of McCandless for their care and for providing a wonderful home. A special thank you to the wonderful staff of Commonwealth Hospice who had been nothing but spectacular for their committed care and compassion, especially nurse Karen, who became a special friend of our mother.
