Rafael Alfonso Ramirez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 12, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on July 9, 1944, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and made his home in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, recently moving to Economy Borough, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his devoted wife, Barbara Ramirez.

Rafael was a loving husband to Barbara for more than 56 wonderful years, celebrating their marriage on August 1, 1968. Together, they created a warm and nurturing home that was the heart of countless family gatherings. As a proud father, he is survived by his children: Tara (Bill) Golgosky, Analisa Urcia, and David (Robynne). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Marissa, (Blake) Olivia, Reese, Laurel, Will, Trent, Dane, Brooklyn, and Heath. Rafael was also a caring brother to Mary, Gloria (Toby), Aurora, Rafael S., (Rosie) Susana, (Domingo), Marina, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Rafael Santiago Ramirez and Marina Ramirez and his beloved brother, Mario Alberto.

Rafael was not just a family man, but also a man of many passions. He had an insatiable love of history, particularly the Civil War, and was an avid reader. His adventurous spirit led him to travel across all 50 states and enjoy unforgettable cruises, each journey reflecting his zest for life. Known for his resourcefulness, he was always handy and impressively skilled at trivia.

Above all, Rafael cherished moments spent camping with family, where laughter and storytelling would fill the nights. He had a melodious voice and particularly loved to sing traditional Spanish songs, bringing warmth and joy to those around him. He retired after working for over thirty years at the VA hospital in Oakland, PA. A proud patriot, he served in the Army, and later as Commander of the DAV Chapter 8, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his community and country.

In honor of Rafael’s life and his deep love for family and country, funeral services will be held at Devlin Funeral Home, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, PA 16066. The Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. All family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his remarkable journey, sharing memories and stories that will keep his spirit alive in our hearts. On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11:00 am there will be a funeral service with Military Honors at Devlin Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.

Rafael’s legacy of love, devotion, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him. He will be remembered fondly as a devoted husband, a caring father, and a loyal friend, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many.
