William Gavin Taffe, Jr.
Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital at age 49 surrounded by his family. Bill was one month away from his 50th birthday. He was born in Urbana, Illinois, the oldest son of William G. Taffe, Sr and Patsy J. Janssen. The family moved to Pittsburgh in 1976 and Bill attended St. Sebastian grade school in the North Hills and North Catholic High School. He graduated with a degree in English from Vanderbilt University in 1989. While living in Nashville, he met Beth Gallimore. They married in 1995 and had two beautiful children, Noah Kalen and Hailey Nicole while living in San Diego, CA. Bill ultimately moved back to Pittsburgh in 2006. He enjoyed the Grateful Dead, camping and the outdoors, playing his guitar, sports, and reading.
Beloved son of Patsy J. Janssen (Jack) and William G. Taffe, Sr (Robin), both of Pittsburgh; father of Noah and Hailey, both of Oceanside, CA; brother of Kevin Taffe, MD (Elisa) also of Pittsburgh; uncle of Alex and Michael Taffe. Bill is also survived by his ex-wife, Beth Culp of Oceanside, CA and by friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Kentucky and California.
As per his wishes, Bill will be cremated. A gathering to celebrate Bill’s life is being planned. Family and friends will be notified. In lieu of flowers, a 529 account for his children’s educational needs is being established.
