Walter Nicholas “Nick” Hoban

August 30, 1935 - December 01, 2022

Walter Nicholas “Nick” Hoban
Age 87, of Cranberry Twp., PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2022, surrounded by his family. Nick was born on August 30, 1935, in Sharon, PA to the late Dr. Walter and Catherine (Zimmer) Hoban. He is survived by his wife, Derethea (Brennan) Hoban whom he married on August 25, 1956. Nick and Derethea had five children Kimberly (Kevin) Cope, Nicholas (JoLynn) Hoban, Jacquelynn (David) Puzzuoli and Dr. Timothy (Linda) Hoban. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Shelley (Eric) Thokar.
Nick had 16 grandchildren whom he dearly loved: Ian, Luke, Nick, Jodie, Mike, Tim, Alexandra, Rachel, Norah, Nicole, Brosnan, Ashley, Chelsea and Sean. He was preceded in death by his precious grandsons Brendan and Dillon.
Nick’s 23 great-grandchildren – all born within the last seven years – always put a smile on his face.
Mr. Hoban was a graduate of Sharon High School and John Carroll University. He was an entrepreneur owning several businesses including the Sawyer School of Business (Pittsburgh), Palm Restaurant Supply (FL), and “Nick Hoban’s Irish Pub & Restaurant” in downtown Pittsburgh.
Nick loved to laugh and was known for his pleasant personality and great sense of humor. He was a loyal Pittsburgh sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. Nick had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. From his early years as a wedding soloist, his decades of entertaining family and friends at holidays and special occasions, to just singing daily little tunes around the house, Nick never lost his lifelong love of music. Those who knew him will always remember his beautiful rendition of “Danny Boy”, his most requested song, that left nary a dry eye in the room.
Nick was generously loved and will be greatly missed.
A private memorial service was held on December 6th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to samaritanspurse.org.
