November 14, 1937 - March 30, 2026
Visitation: Friends and family received Thursday April 2, 2026 from 2PM - 8PM at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy.
Service: Funeral Service Friday 11 AM at the funeral home.
Walter Lee Maddox III, 88, of Pittsburgh’s North Side, passed away on March 30, 2026. Beloved husband for 44 years of Terese (Terry) Maddox; loving father of Lynnette Dalton, Kimberly Maddox, Kelly Maddox, Nicole Maddox, Brandy Maddox and Alexis Allen (Will Allen); proud grandfather of Joshua Maddox, Jordan Maddox, Madison Dalton, Jackson Juzang, Kennedy Dalton and Eliana Allen; great-grandfather of Trinity Maddox and Lazarus Maddox; brother of Loretta Russ and Cynthia Vearnon; also survived by loving nieces and nephews and many devoted relatives and friends.
Walt passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and daughters. In his final moments, he was held in the same warmth and care that he had given so freely throughout his life—a quiet, graceful farewell befitting the man he was.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dana, Rachel, and Mary, the compassionate nurses who cared for Walt so deeply over the final two years of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. In true Walt fashion, those wishing to honor his memory may also do so by performing a simple act of kindness for someone else — a gesture that reflects the generosity, warmth, and spirit he so effortlessly shared throughout his life.
Friends and family received Thursday April 2, 2026 from 2PM – 8PM at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy. Funeral Service Friday 11 AM at the funeral home.

Our Deepest sympathy to all of your family. Mr. Maddox was always the bright spot in our day when we would see him on a service call. Afterwards, He would stop at the pretzel shop in our building, and then come in our office to share with us. What great memories!

My deepest condolences go out to Terry and the Maddox family. Walt was always such a kind, gentle man who always knew exactly what to say to make others feel loved, appreciated, and comforted during times of need. I will cherish the time that I got to spend with him over the years. I’m sure he is making beautiful music with my dad in the greatest of all choirs in Heaven. 🩷
Words alone can’t be press the sadness and loss of such a wonderful person. I last saw Walt at my mother’s Wake in 2006. It was like seeing the same young man that would be in his father’s barbershop on N Franklin Street. He possessed the same smile, kindness and comaraderie that I remember as a young girl. My heartfelt prayers, strength and condolences go out to the family, and always know that we loved him ALL – but God loved him best.

Walt took me in, in 1989 for the ride of my life! All the concerts sometimes entertaining over 17,000 people at the same time, school assembly programs traveling many many miles. All the while, the love was flowing between us. Walt treated me like his son and I will always cherish our relationship. Terri is everything Walt could ever wanted in a wife. She is an amazing woman! Alexis is the best little sister that I could ever have. They took me in and made me one of their own. Condolences to Terri and all of Walt’s family. Love,
