Walter A. Gasowski, formerly of Economy Borough and Munhall, gently transitioned from this life on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007. He was born March 28, 1917, in Lawrenceville. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Magdalene; and their daughter, Emma and her husband, Stephen Masley. A graduate of Connolly Trade School, he worked for 35 years as a commercial artist for Service Engraving and the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph. He was also an accomplished professional artist and art instructor. In retirement, he taught art classes in Homestead Park and at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, spending his last year as a resident of Sherwood Oaks. He was member of Pittsburgh Water Color Society, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Cranberry Art Association and was an artistic contributor to Stefan Lorant’s, “Bicentennial History of Pittsburgh.” He is survived by his sons, John (Linda), of Export, Dr. Gary (Sandra), of Hanover, and Paul (Annie), of Lee, N.H.; and his grandchildren, Tina, Tracy and John, Amy and Kate, Gretchen and Alexander and Jeremy and Carl; and six great-grandchildren. Our father/grandfather’s life was filled with the wonderment of the natural beauty of the land and people around us. His love of art and nature was remarkable and extended into his family and students. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, 724-772-8800.
