Ursule Kairys

On Sunday March 5, 2006, age 88 of Sherwood Oaks, formerly of McCandless. Ursule Connell Friday Kairys who lived a long and productive life highlighted by membership in which she exulted as “the greatest generation”, died on Sunday March 5, 2006 of complications of dementia. She was 88 years old mentally acute for all but her last months of life. “Doll” as she was known throughout her life graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Carnegie Tech. A lifelong bridge player she attained the status of grandmaster during her retirement years. at the outset of WWII she enlisted as an officer in the US Navy where she served as a Meteorologist. She worked as a business process analyst until 1949 when she married her husband of 50 years the late Edward C. Kairys and raised three sons. She was a long and faithful founding member of St. Alexis Parish in Wexford. Beginning in the late 1960’s she served North Allegheny Schools as a substitute teacher for about 20 years, primarily in Math and English classes. She also founded a part time basement business called Quick-Kit, supplying arts and crafts & gift shops with kits to construct needlepoint on plastic canvas creation of her original designs. “Doll” is survived by her three sons Edward C,. ” Ted” Kairys Jr. of Pgh., David J. Kairys O.D. of DuBois and Christopher J. Kairys of Allison Park. daughters-in-law Kristi, Colleen and Beth respectively; nine grand -children and her sister Julianne “Jana” Friday Tuttle of FL.
