Thaddeus Osial Sr.

April 26, 2024 - July 24, 2016

On July 24, Thaddeus “Ted” Osial, Sr died peacefully at age 93. He resided at Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry PA with his wife of 69 years, Mary Jane Osial. He is survived by his children Thaddeus A. Osial, Jr. MD (Linda), Richard R Osial, and Mary Jo Osial (Eric), as well as grandchildren Ryan, Eric, Justin, Jim and Alissa Osial. He was preceded in death by his son, James P Osial. Born in Poland in 1922, he was raised in Toledo OH, where his interest in electronics began with crystal radio sets, and grew in the evolving field of radar while he served in US Navy in the Pacific during WWII. He was a proud veteran and a lifetime member of the American Legion, and served as Post Commander in Baltimore. From the 1950’s onward, his career in electrical engineering blossomed with Westinghouse Electric where he worked on advanced radar, build one of the first lasers in the country (with related patents), worked on the early microwave ovens (with more patents) and eventually he returned to radar, working on the team that built the AWACs systems that are still in use today. In retirement he taught mathematics for another 10+ years. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus, and took a keen interest in his children’s education. He will be sadly missed, but his jokes will always be remembered. Burial will be private, after 10 AM Mass at St Ferdinand’s church, Cranberry Tuesday July 26. The family will greet Ted’s friends at 9:30 before the Mass at the church. Arrangements by Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry
