Sue (Schwer) Benaquista, 81, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025
Sue was born on October 29, 1943 and was raised in Homestead, Pennsylvania. Affectionately known as “Susie” in her youth, she was a Munhall High school Sweet Sioux dance team member, known for her vibrant spirit and kind heart.
Sue dedicated much of her life to caring for others, most recently retiring as a nurse’s assistant at West Penn Hospital. Her compassion and calm presence were a comfort to many patients and families over the years.
“Nana Sue” was immensely proud of her children, and especially her five grandchildren, and loved them all with all her heart. In her free time, Sue found happiness in life’s simple pleasures – reading books and the daily newspaper, doing crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite TV shows. She also shared a close bond with her beloved cat, Annie, whose companionship brought her great joy.
Sue was extremely devoted to her family and is survived by her son, Don DeBlasio Jr., wife Michelle (Nagy), along with their three children: Angelina, Ariana, and Donny; and by her daughter, Lisa DeBlasio, and her two children: Nicholas (wife Kelly) and Max.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ann (Perhach) Schwer, and her brother, Robert Schwer and wife Joyce.
Sue will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love, and the strength and kindness she brought to the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy will surely continue to live on in her family, her friends, and all who were lucky enough to cross her path.
Friends will be received Friday July 25, 2025 from 1 PM until time of prayers at 2 PM at DEVLIN Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
