Sr. M. Theresita Sabol

Sister M. Theresita Sabol, SCN, ended her earthly life of 92 years and began her eternal life Thursday, April 1, 2010. At the time of her death, Sister was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Nazareth, Ky. (the Vincentian Sisters of Charity, Pittsburgh, merged with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 2008). Born in Brier Hill, Sister entered the Vincentian Sisters of Charity from St. Mary and Ann Parish, in Marianna in 1933, and served God and the church for 77 years. She achieved a bachelor of education degree from Duquesne University and a master’s degree in education from Notre Dame University. During her years of ministry, Sister Theresita served in the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg, in Pennsylvania, as well as the dioceses of Youngstown, Ohio, Mobile, Ala., and St. Catharine, Canada. Sister Theresita taught for 36 years in both elementary and secondary schools and was principal of Vincentian High School for 15 years. She served as the Director of the Social Services Center at the City of St. Juda, Montgomery, Ala., for 14 years and as a member of the leadership team for eight years. In her “retirement”, Sister Theresita ministered to the residents of Regency Hall Nursing Home and the Vincentian Home as a volunteer visitor. Sister herself became a resident of the Vincentian Home in 2009. Sister Theresita was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Anna; brothers, Alexander, Albert and Andrew; and sisters, Mary Gablas, Dorothy Sabol and Margaret DeFilippo. Among those who mourn her death are her brother, John Sabol, of Marianna; her sisters, Catherine Rendulic, of Marianna, Ann (Al) Perchinsky, of Bentleyville, and Veronica (Frank) Greskovich, of Pensacola, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and all her Sisters in Community. Friends are being received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Louise Convent, 8200 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh (formerly the Vincentian Motherhouse). The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Louise Convent Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters’ cemetery on the convent grounds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Office of Congregational Advancement, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048-0009, or to the Vincentian High School, Peebles and McKnight roads, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
