Age 92, died Monday, September 15, 2014, in Marquis Gardens Place Personal Care Home in Uniontown, PA. Born on December 12, 1921, the daughter of the late Louise (Arnold) and George Prechtl and George Robertson (stepfather). She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, James D. Flaherty, Sr. in 1998; her daughter, Judith Ruth Taylor; son-in-law, Robert Taylor; and grandson, Ryan Taylor in 1976; and her brother, Donald Robertson in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Arline (Robertson) Clark of Port Vue, PA; her children, James D. (Susan) Flaherty, Jr. of Columbus, OH, Michael Kevin (Patti Pomatto) Flaherty of Chicago, IL, Thomas Terrence (Paula) Flaherty of Uniontown, PA and Joyce Flaherty (Rob) Ritchey of Cincinnati, OH; she is also survived by grandchildren, J.D. (Nancy) Flaherty III of Columbus, OH, Charles Hawthorne Flaherty of Tulum, MX, Mary Scott (B.J.) Pietrafese of Cleveland, OH, Michael Thomas Flaherty of Chicago, IL, Matthew Paul Nesser of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Edward Ritchey and Daniel Flaherty Ritchey of Lexington, KY, Rachel Kylie Ritchey and Ryan Michael Ritchey of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Amira Flaherty of Columbus, OH, Rosalie and Biagio Pietrafese of Cleveland, OH; and many loving nieces and nephews. Ruth was a tireless homemaker raising five children as well as volunteering for many community causes and school events. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling, travelling to her home in Lake Worth, FL and spending time with her family. She remained strong and kind through many physical ailments and great personal loss. Her selflessness and compassion touched her family and many friends. She was blessed with a long and close relationship with her sister, Arline. The family would like to say a special “thank you” to the staff and residents of the Marquis Gardens Place of Uniontown, PA and the staff of Medi Home Hospice of Scottdale, PA for their devotion, love and support they gave to their mom and her family. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Parish, N.S.
