Of Ross Twp., on Thursday, August 6, 2015. Beloved wife of 61 years to Robert Gavran; loving mother of Ronald D. Gavran (Bonita), Russell E. Gavran (Leslie) and Richard R. Gavran (Mirra); sister of the late Julius Shimkets; grandmother of Grant C., Courtney, Benjamin C. and Grace Gavran. Friends received Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa of Avila Church Monday, 10 a.m. Ruth was a graduate of Oliver High School Class of 1949. During High School and post graduation she worked at her father’s meat market, Shimket’s Market, on the Northside. She married Robert Gavran of Carrick in 1954. Ruth was a homemaker, and very involved in the Lithuanian Society of Pittsburgh. Ruth was later employed at Union National Bank, J&L Steel, Midland Ross, and Edgecomb Steel as a bookkeeper. Ruth’s pride and joy was raising three boys, Ron, Russ, and Richard. She attended many baseball games over the years and was her sons’ biggest fan. Ruth also has four grandchildren, Grant, Courtney, Ben, and Grace, who she adore. Ruth was an avid gardener and cooked many Lithuanian dishes for her family. She enjoyed getting together with her many friends, and keeping in touch with family members. She will be greatly missed.
