Robert Ronksley

Age 93, of Cranberry Twp., on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, born in Elm Grove, WV to the late Irvin and Martha Ronksley. Beloved husband of Barbara Jean (Withrow) Ronksley for 67 years; loving father of Martha Kay Heidkamp (Bill), Thomas I. Ronksley (Donna), the late Diana Koehler and the late Robert L. Ronksley; proud grandfather of six; and great-grandfather of nine. Bob graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering. During his years at Purdue he served in World War II in the European theater, with the 290th Field Artillery Observation Battalion as a survey officer. He held the rank of Captain at discharge from the Army. In 1947, he became a Special Agent with the FBI, serving for 25 years. Upon retirement from the FBI, Bob was recruited to work at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA, being instrumental in the development of the Criminal Justice Dept. He was an associate professor until his retirement in 1981. He and Barbara moved to Conneaut Lake, PA in 1993 and continued to enjoy boating, fishing, and traveling the world. In 2006, the move was made to Cranberry Twp., PA, to be closer to family. In 2010 they moved into the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, where Barb currently resides. Bob was strong in his faith and love of his family. He went on three mission trips to India with CHOSEN, made numerous work trips with Habitat for Humanity, taught the Bethel Bible Series for years and was always active in church functions and volunteer opportunities. He took his family on numerous camping trips, including two across the U.S., giving his children a foundation on which to build their own family traditions. He was involved in his children’s activities, providing his wisdom and guidance. Bob was an exceptional role model for all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Twp., PA. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Monday.
